In Memory of Daniel Hodgin

On 16th May 2015 a Charity event was held in memory of 20 year old Daniel Hodgin who tragically died in November 2014, nephew to West Pennine Trucks’ Telford depot manager Mark Davies.

The ticket only event was a sell out at Birchmeadow Centre in Broseley, with singer Rhianna Moore and rock band Midset Buka, with Mark Davies and his pal Justin Tench at the door, not letting anyone in without a ticket, our very own Max and Paddy.

Donations were generously given on the night and West Pennine Trucks rounded it up to £1000. The money was given to West Midlands Search and Rescue, who cover the whole of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire no matter what weather conditions they face.

58-mile Charity bike ride for Kirk with Behçet’s disease

Kirk_Raftery-Ticket

At Telford depot, our very own Kirk Raftery-Ticket underwent a grueling 58 mile charity bike ride on 20th June in aid of 42 year old Louisa. A mother of 2, Louisa has beaten cancer twice already, but it has now come back in the form of metastatic brain cancer. Sadly Louisa’s illness is terminal and Kirk wants to raise money to send Louisa and her two children Cian and Holly on a once in a life time holiday #fundraisingforlou

Kirk suffers from a chronic illness called Behçet’s disease following two strokes, and is taking part in the charity bike ride on a tandem with a friend of his on a course designed by a triathlon.

Behçet’s disease is a rare condition in which blood vessels and tissues may become inflamed and the immune system mistakenly attacks these healthy tissues and blood vessels, so a big shout out to Kirk, even after disregarding advice to stop, he continued right to the end and finished the 58 mile ride in 4 hours. A massive well done Kirk and great news on raising £400.

West Pennine Trucks achieves Safecontractor accreditation

SafeContractor-Roundel-RWest Pennine Trucks’ Middleton depot is pleased to announce they have been awarded Safecontractor accreditation.

The safecontractor scheme is driven by the need for a uniform standard across the business and is used by many large organisations as a way of identifying a suitable and competent contractor. With more than 210 major clients and over 20,000 contractor members, safecontractor is one of the fastest-growing health and safety assessment schemes in the UK.

Under the Safecontractor scheme, businesses undergo a vetting process that examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice. Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database of accredited contractors, which is accessible online to registered users only at www.safecontractor.com

Middleton depot manager Michael Skilbeck says “Large organisations cannot take the risk of employing a contractor that is unable to demonstrate a high standard of working, this accreditation will serve to reassure customers that we understand the importance and value of adopting an extremely high standard of safety and risk management for both staff and customers; our understanding for the right calibre technician in providing high quality in the workplace”.

Mantank switches to SCANIA

Manchester based Mantank Environmental Services Ltd needed a reliable vehicle from a reliable source, so switched to Scania for its DISAB Centurion LN/9-1812 HT Vacuum machine.

Purchased from Scania dealer West Pennine Trucks in Middleton, Mantank’s new DISAB Centurion LN/9-1812 HT is an extremely powerful and versatile suction and blowing machine, which can be used for wet heavy sludge’s and for dry applications including carbons, cement, sands, gravel, perlite, grain and many more dry dusty materials.

Mantank operate in industrial cleaning from powder spillages and tank cleaning, to heavy sludge removal, signifying a high profile DISAB high power vacuum requirement. With innovation at the forefront Scania clearly met that obligation, and with other establishments in the area recommending Scania, Nigel Barnes Workshop Manager of Mantank made the decision to switch to Scania and has never looked back!

The unit is equipped with a separate diesel engine offering the capability to utilise diverse fuel taxation regulations. It also makes the machine operate independently to the truck. It has a hose system with a diameter of up to 200mm and provides a maximum vacuum of -900mbars and a high tip capacity, enabling waste to be bulked up on site. A telescopic boom with extension pipes reduces manual handling for high level work, while the machine also benefits from a low noise level (75 dBA at 7 metres distance) and a unique filter solution to reduce dust emissions to only 1,3 mg/m.

Mantank were a Volvo stronghold for many years and it was a big decision for Nigel, however reliability and performance was essential. Commenting on his decision to purchase Scania, Nigel says “I’m really impressed with the overall performance and capabilities of this Scania, it has ticked all the boxes, even its fuel economy. I will reap the benefits with such a reliable chassis and I will enjoy the fantastic support network from West Pennine Trucks”.

Nigel has also received great comments himself from others on its exterior, saying it’s an ‘eye-catcher’ and ‘looks great’.

In conjunction with their fleet of haulage & waste disposal liquid ring tankers and skips, Mantank can deal efficiently with emergencies or scheduled projects. Mantank’s personnel are fully trained in the use of access equipment for the cleaning of all high level areas so the right machinery is essential.

Mantank have since ordered two new Scania Tankers which will be showcased at the Tank-ex exhibition in Harrogate on 29th & 30th May 2014.
