More steel for AJN

Over the years Kentford (Newmarket) based steel stockholders AJN Steelstock has been happy with its fleet of Montracon trailers. In fact, over the period it has also worked with Montracon to continually fine-tune the specification of its trailers to meet operating requirements more precisely. Not surprisingly, therefore, when the company opened a major new depot in Somerset, to more than double its sales capacity to 150,000tonnes overall, it turned to Montracon to supply trailers to be based from there.

Fifteen flat platform trailers, including two that extend up to 20m, are destined to complement the Kentford operation by moving a wide range of steel and specialist machined/drilled/cut steel products from Somerset to civil engineering and construction sites up the eastern side of the country.

Delivery of the 2015 intake brings the AJN trailer fleet to 30 units, with all but one bearing the Montracon badge.
As transport manager Michael O’Brian will tell you that if Montracon and its trailers continue to perform as well as they do, it makes sense for AJN to stick with them.

Montracon’s ground-breaking work in the area of load safety has been widely reported in the trade press recently, following formal approval of the design concept.

The side netting and strapping system that operates on the range of double deck curtainsiders was designed by Montracon at the request of a number of it’s trading partners, mainly the pallet networks, and following the publication of a series of guidelines for load securing on double deck trailers, by the DVSA and the RHA.

IMG_6051The system incorporated side nets on the top deck, that assist in pallet security and help prevent loose items falling from the deck, and it allows the driver to open the nets and straps from ground level, thus preventing any working at height issues.

The system, which can be retro-fitted to older trailers, as well as new, has generated a huge amount of interest, and has already stimulated a growing number of orders for Montracon.

Montracon head for the highlands

Montracon are pleased to announce that the first unit of the refrigerated trailer order placed by J&D Cowper, has been collected.

The trailer, fitted with the latest Thermoking multi-temp tracked refrigeration unit, will add to the expanding fleet of Ross-Shire based J&D Cowper, who are a key refrigerated transport, and coldstore supplier in the Scottish Highlands.

J&D Cowper, established over 25 years, now runs a fleet of over 40 trailers, and has well established trading links with many of the UK’s major supermarket chains

Montracon have showcased it’s latest trailer designs, with an emphasis on health & safety, during an exhibition to the members of The Pallet Network (TPN).

The first trailer on show was the wrap around rear curtain trailer, in full TPN livery, designed for safe access to the full load length of the trailer, this allows the driver to remain in their cab during loading, and now becoming the preferred choice of most of the major pallet networks.

The second trailer was fitted with Montracon’s patented Retractostrap System. This system safely stores the load straps away in the roof of the trailer when not in use, and allows easy and safe securing of a load. This system can be easily retro-fitted into a curtainsider, and does away with roof mounted strapping systems.

In 2012, VOSA announced that they would be tightening up on load safety, particularly with curtainsided trailers, these rules are now being rigorously policed by VOSA at roadside checks, for more information see
