DAF CF with PX-7 engine now available with 3 axles at HTC

DAF is now offering the Euro 6 CF with the PACCAR PX-7 engine in three new 3-axle configurations. These combine a higher payload with the efficiency of the 6.7-litre six-cylinder engine. This gives the 26 tonne GVW vehicle a body and payload allowance of almost 19 tonnes. The second addition is the FAS which has twin tyres on the rearmost axle for heavier duty applications such as hook loaders.

The CF range with the PACCAR PX-7 engine firstly includes a new model featuring a single mounted 7.5-tonne trailing axle behind the 13-tonne rear axle. This increases the net payload to almost 19 tonnes and allows for combined weights of up to 32 tonnes. A number of variants equipped with a dual mounted trailing axle is also available for more heavy-duty use.

Maximum maneuverability

Specially designed for applications requiring a higher payload coupled with maximum maneuverability, the FAN is the third configuration now offered with the PACCAR PX-7 engine. This is ideally suited to operation in the most confined spaces and on delicate surfaces as it offers the tightest turning circle both unladen and laden with minimum tyre-scrub.
All the new models with the trailing rear axle are available with Day Cab, Sleeper Cab and Space Cab.

6.7-litre PACCAR PX-7-engine

What the new variants have in common is the 6.7-litre six-cylinder PACCAR PX-7 engine in power ratings of 208 kW/283 hp or 231 kW/314 hp. A manual 9-speed transmission is offered as standard with an AS Tronic automated 12-speed gearbox available as an option. For higher performance and the possibility of drawbar operation up to 44 tonnes GTW, the CF three-axle models are, of course, still available with the 10.8-litre PACCAR MX-11 engine and the 12.9-litre PACCAR MX-13 engine. Production of the new models with the PX-7 engine will start in early November but they can be ordered from all HTC depots now, call Paul Whincup on 07775 563076

HTC Work & Play at Advanced KFS

Advanced KFS invited the sales team down from HTC & DGC Hire, part of the HTC group, for a day of both work and play at its facility in Andover.

The day started with breakfast and a presentation of the whole range of Advanced KFS product supported by both hard copy and digital information and a tour of the factory showing vehicles in build and also finished units.

It was then a quick trip in the company’s current minibus demonstrator, up to the outdoor karting track at Truxton Race Circuit for an Arrive & Drive session round the circuits 900mm national track.

I don’t believe Lewis Hamilton has anything to worry about, but everybody had a fantastic time and were ready for lunch with an opportunity to analysis the racing stats and to either blame a slow Kart or track conditions for not coming first!
Finally it was back to the Andover factory for presentation of a bottle of champagne for fastest lap which was awarded to Greg Lackey (DGC Hire).

Justin Seal (Sales Director HTC) commented, we’d like to thank Advanced KFS for their hospitality, and it’s given everybody from HTC a far better understanding of the breadth of product offered by Advanced KFS and the key benefits the unique range of vehicles offer to the end-user.

DAF boosts Powerday’s efforts to produce ‘urban vehicle of the future with HTC

– London-based waste specialist takes first Euro-6 DAF LF skip chassis
– New DAF ‘fits vision of urban vehicle of the future’
– Powerday, DAF and Hyva collaboration

HTC customer, family-owned recycling and waste management specialist, Powerday in Harlesden, has taken on a new Euro-6 DAF LF 250 FA skip-loader chassis. The vehicles come with a bespoke specification which the company describes as fitting its ‘vision of the urban vehicle of the future’.

Equipment comprises a Hyva skip-loader body operated via new remote control technology, a four-camera ‘live streaming’ monitoring system, and filled-in side-underrun protection; all safety features which Powerday believes may one day be a standard requirement for inner city commercial vehicles. DAF Telematics is also installed.

Boasting truly impressive green credentials and compliant with a wide range of industry standards, including FORS Gold accreditation and CLOCS Champion status, Powerday says that DAF was instrumental in ‘spearheading the next generation of Powerday vehicles’.

“DAF is fully committed to what we want achieve,” said Transport Manager, Bill Cox, “and, together with Hyva, we have brought to fruition a vehicle which is not only Euro-6 compliant, the first on our fleet, but a truck that fits our vision of the urban vehicle of the future.”

Powerday has previous and excellent experience of DAF having taken 15 DAF LF 18-tonne skip vehicles in 2011. The latest Euro-6 LF, while showcasing Powerday’s credentials as one of the Capital’s most environmentally conscious fleet operators, is also being measured against the benchmark performance of its Euro-5 predecessors.

“Our prior DAF experience has been very positive indeed,” said Cox, “and from an operational point-of-view, our drivers appear extremely impressed with how the DAFs handle themselves around town.

“The wireless remote control that operates the skip loading equipment is, we believe, a step forward in the safer loading and unloading of skips,” added Cox, “giving the driver all-round vision of the operation instead of just one view from the side of the vehicle, thus ensuring a far safer proposition for both driver and bystanders.”

Powerday, with its claim of ‘100% recovery from waste 24/7’, boasts the largest and most efficient recycling plant in southern England. From its Old Oak Sidings site in north-west London, the company’s wharf may accommodate three 90ft barges at peak times, each carrying up to 80 tonnes of waste. Located next to Willesden junction, Powerday is able to rail-freight materials throughout the UK – equivalent to 70 truck-loads of material for a single rail-freight journey.

DAF’s aftersales excellence delivers results for Carlsberg

  • New DAF LF and CF Euro 6 models chosen after a competitive tender to supply
  • 98 new trucks worth £11.7m for Carlsberg UK’s in-house national distribution service
  • Aftersales package from DAF dealers was a key reason Carlsberg UK chose DAF
  • Unique vehicle specifications tailored to Carlsberg UK’s strict loading and safety requirements, plus some have three seat cabs for driver training
  • Finance provided by PACCAR Financial over six years

After a competitive open tender, DAF has won an £11.7m order from Carlsberg UK for 98 new trucks for its in-house national distribution service.
Representing one of DAF’s biggest and most prestigious orders, the new vehicles will be the first DAF trucks on Carlsberg UK’s distribution fleet for 10 years, and will be based at eight of Carlsberg UK’s regional distribution centres across the UK doing multi-drop deliveries of beer, plus associated items such as gas cylinders.

DAF was able to provide vehicles that perfectly matched Carlsberg UK’s particular safety and environmental requirements, and is supplying them via a six year ‘Hire Plus’ agreement from its own PACCAR Financial PLC.

The 98 vehicles include 15t and 18t LF rigid models, plus 26t CF and 6×2 tractors all sporting Carlsberg UK’s new hop leaf livery. The CF tractor units are expected to do an annual mileage of around 130,000 km each, and around 60,000 km each for the LF and CF rigid models doing more local deliveries, making a total annual mileage in excess of four million kilometers for the new vehicles, which is why durability and a strong aftersales support from the DAF dealer network was a key reason why Carlsberg UK chose DAF this time.

Carlsberg UK is one of the only major beer and beverage businesses to retain its own drivers and in-house national distribution service, so used feedback from its drivers and trainers to specifically tailor the new trucks to the way it works, such as needing a low load height for unloading, and complying with strict load security safety standards, which DAF Trucks Sales Director, Ian Grant, worked closely with Carlsberg UK to achieve.

The curtainside bodies were designed to comply with the EN 12642XL load security standard, and to ensure the load stays inside the vehicle in the event of emergency braking or an accident, Carlsberg UK specified its own design of bungee restraint system able to withstand a 1g forward load restraint. The bespoke design also maximized the payload available by including safe storage of gas cylinders and trays which the trucks also carry.
