Under the European Union Directive, professional bus, coach and lorry drivers over 3.5 tonnes need to hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) with the aim of improving road safety and helping to maintain high standards of driving.

New drivers obtain their Driver CPC by passing a series of initial qualification tests – theory and practical. This must then be followed by 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years to keep their Driver CPC.

Prior to West Pennine Trucks, Gary’s background was in commercial vehicle repairs where he started his training, becoming an apprentice trainer within workshops, moving into transport and then onto training. Gary delivered Operator and Driver CPC courses to companies such as Home Delivery Network and Nightfreight, and taught motor vehicle technology at colleges in Stoke on Trent and Warrington Collegiate.

Gary then developed Lancashire Drivers CPC in 2008, working with the Scania product, with the last 3 years delivering training to Scania GB, working as part of the team that delivered ecolution training, the largest driver training assignment that Scania has been involved in.
